Sizing the “Make Money” eBook market on eBay

Let’s estimate the amount of eBay sales of eBooks about making money. Sellers strive to differentiate their products by using different keywords and categories. So the best approach is to research the big sellers and multiply by a fudge factor to account for the small sellers. Let’s call the fudge factor 2.

I’ll start with Kekoa64. He sold $7.5K in 30 days a few months ago. jjfjq sold $4.5K and mysterygiant ~$1K. These three sellers had combined sales of over 1,135 eBooks during this 30 day period and $13K in revenue.

Multiplying by 2 produces an eBay sales figure of “Make Money” eBooks of $26K per month. That’s $312K per year! The only cost of sales is eBay fees. That’s the sweetest market I’ve ever seen.

Now I should mention for comparison purposes that Skip McGrath sells printed material on how to make money on eBay. During the same period, he sold $1.5K in books and another $9.5K in lighting kits for sellers.

Yes, this is a great niche, if you can get in it. But there are really only three sellers making a living on it out of 1 million eBay sellers.  And these three aren’t just average people, either.  They’re extremely sharp.

  1. Wow! This is a nice blog related to E-book on Ebay that it is important to estimate the amount of eBay sales of eBooks about making money. Sellers strive to differentiate their products by using different keywords and categories. Further, Multiplying by 2 produces an eBay sales figure of “Make Money” eBooks of $26K per month. That’s $312K per year! The only cost of sales is eBay fees. That’s the sweetest market I’ve ever seen.

  2. I made $2.5k a month selling 1 software program that was digitally delivered. Not now thou. Even my classified ads get pulls AND I am now suspended for 3 days. F*** ebay.

  3. haha: Why was your classified ad pulled? Did you happen to have a payment link in the classified? Something like that….or are you saying eBay screwed up, and you weren’t at fault?

  4. I got conflicting answers from live help. 1st guy said I could insert a pay button, 2nd guy said no, 3rd guy said yes. So I inserted a pay button. And wham, listing gone. So I try again, this time with link to paypal, wham gone. I didn’t want to rant but how the F*** are you going to sell something if you can’t put a pay button? Only thing buyers can do is email me. Everyone knows that people are lazy and 95% of them are never going to email me. SO what use is a classified ad?

Ok so then, I thought, I’m going to go international so I list on ebay hong kong, ebay Italy. Italy was doing great since I translated my listing into Italian. Then ebay Italy pulls ALL my listings, even Hong Kong ones. Thats how I got suspended for 3 days.

Jason, do you work for ebay or something? Here I am making $2,500 a month and F**king ebay bans digital items. How would you like to make 2.5K less money???

    End of Rant

  5. haha: No I don’t work for eBay.

A tip though: Live help agents are ALWAYS getting things wrong. To get the official regulations you need to just sit down and read through the eBay website TOS, and the updates for the new rules effective April 1st. That’s really the ONLY way to make sure you are okay with your listings.

You say you were making $2,500 a month….why not just put it on a CD or DVD and list in whatever category you like…get out of those classifieds.
